Train as a border force officer and help to keep the UK safe
Border Force secures the UK’s borders 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We implement immigration and customs regulations at the UK’s 140 seaports, airports, 200+ general aviation ports, postal depots and the international rail network. We also work with the wider Home Office to thwart terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking.
Our work is varied and rewarding, attracting people from all backgrounds and walks of life. It starts with up to five weeks training in legislation, procedures, personal safety and deploying your powers. You should expect a mix of online and classroom learning, as well as practical sessions.
You’ll then go on to take up a uniformed role which might include checking passengers arriving in the UK, being part of intelligence-led interceptions of controlled drugs and other prohibited goods, or working in a postal depot checking parcels. At all times, we’ll expect you to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and teamwork. Do well and there are plenty of opportunities for increased responsibility and reward.
We’re looking for people who enjoy interacting with the public and colleagues. Flexible and adaptable, you’ll be able to turn your hand to a range of activities and solve a wide variety of problems. A strong sense of personal ethics and integrity is essential, and you’ll be ready to work in environments that can sometimes be difficult and pressurised.
A UK national, aged 18 or over, you must either hold two A levels (or equivalent qualifications) or have relevant experience in security, regulatory or investigative work. Willingness to be part of a 24/7 rota – including night shifts and weekends – is essential. You must have a reasonable level of physical fitness and possess a full manual driving licence.
