The YMCA of Northern Colorado is seeking an experienced adventurer and an organized administrative pioneer to pick up the compass and guide our residential camp to higher budgetary, programmatic and philanthropic elevations.
We are hiring a high-caliber Executive Director of Resident Camp & Leadership Programs to oversee our resident camp, the beautiful YMCA Camp Santa Maria, and lead our youth leadership programs.
YMCA Camp Santa Maria is a thriving medium-sized residential camp nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. This position takes responsibility for developing, implementing and promoting resident camp, outdoor education, conference and retreat, and family programs. The Executive Director of Resident Camp & Leadership Programs will delve into everything from facility management to parent and public relations, marketing to recruitment, budgeting to program development, fundraising to training. This position will also manage our year-round youth leadership programs, including CIT/LIT/Internship camp programs as well as State Youth and Government and LeadColorado programs.

“Camping” is your middle name (maybe not your legal middle name per se, but something you’ve adopted over the years). However, your passion for the outdoors is balanced with your programming prowess, leadership chops, organizational know-how and supreme budgeting ability. You’re like the Bear Grylls of residential camp administration. You use your camp-centric education and experience to plan and implement strategic, operational and communication efforts. You think at a high level and have high expectations of your staff, fostering an environment of innovation, positivity and teamwork at the camp.
You are a Swiss Army Knife of a person: adaptable, flexible and efficient. Our ideal candidate wears clothing with plenty of pockets and is not afraid to break out in song if the occasion calls for it. He or she believes in tradition, in the art of the campfire and the science of good s’more. At the same time, candidates should thrive in a world of rules, cherish safety, inclusion initiatives and licensing policies.
You are comfortable with – nay, you love – budgeting, implementing risk-mitigation procedures, tackling administrative and marketing duties, training and doing work that some may consider dull…but you certainly would not!
You are guided by a love and respect for nature, for others and for the life-changing power of camp. You champion camping as a means of teaching children and teens life lessons, giving them a place to explore and disconnect from technology, allowing them to celebrate their individuality and embracing them within the camp community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, recreation, business or equivalent.
Ten or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
Required Certifications:
CPR and First Aid
To protect our community, all employees will be required to provide proof of having received a COVID-19 vaccination. New employees, hired after November 1, 2021, will be required to show proof of at least 1st dose of vaccine before their first shift. They will then have 30 days to provide proof of full vaccination.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary Range: $70,000- $100,000/year. This position is year-round, full-time exempt and includes generous medical, dental, vision, life, long term disability insurance options, paid vacation, sick and holiday time, free YMCA family membership, 50% reduced rates on YMCA of Northern Colorado programs including personal training, swim lessons, after school programs, day camp programs and more. We provide contributions of 10% of your salary to the YMCA Retirement Fund for eligible staff.
