SUMMARY OF POSITIONPerforms set-up, adjustment, and operation of grind machines used to remove stock from metal balls after the previous heat-treating operation. Performs operation of lap machines used to lap and polish balls after the grinding operation. Monitors machine operations and makes necessary adjustments to meet manufacturing standards of operation. Examines production, throughout the machine cycle, to ensure quality level conforms to established specifications and completes required documentation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES1. Makes proper set-up and adjustment of machines using correct rings, stones, feed bars, pickers and approach plates to ensure production of balls to required specifications.2. Monitors machine operation and makes necessary adjustments.3. Loads in process containers of balls into machine turntables or hoppers.4. Unloads machine, weighs completed production, documents, and moves production with use of forklift, hoist, crane, or buggy to storage area.5. Measures product dimensionally and visually to ensure quality conformance and records results on charts.6. Keeps guards in place, cleans machines and work area.7. Notifies supervisor of any quality, machine or production difficulties.8. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.9. Performs any other related duties as may be assigned.10. Must be able to complete forklift truck license exams.11. Additional duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND JOB KNOWLEDGEMust have good mechanical aptitude and ability to use basic machine maintenance tools to perform machine set-up’s and adjustments.Must be able to understand and interpret standard operating procedures, verbal instructions and use basic mathematical skills.High school or G.E.D. education required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENTThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must lift or pull raw material to load wire drawer daily. Requires repeated stooping and bending. Duties require 90% standing and walking. The environment can be noisy with exposure to smoke from processing, oil and grease. The environment is not climate controlled. Eye, foot and hand protection required. Must keep guards in place and exercise caution while operating machines. Exposure to flash coolants.
