The Role:
The cell development team at Tesla is looking for an engineer to create novel tests and metrology towards characterizing and quantifying cell material and electrode properties.
This is a highly cross-functional role where you will be working with our modeling team to determine and quantify critical parameters for our groundbreaking cell mechanical and electrochemical models; with our cell materials engineers to guide material chemistries and requirements for our unique dry battery electrode manufacturing process; with our mechanical design teams on the next generation of our 4680 form factor; and more!
Responsibilities:
Drive hands-on characterization of cell materials properties and performance.
Work with the broader cell materials, modeling and design teams to determine important material and electrode parameters; design experiments towards quantifying these.
Create concepts for custom test fixtures and setups to identify and quantify critical cell material and electrode properties.
Serve as the expert for test and metrology instrumentation – know capabilities, limitations, etc.
Requirements:
Degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar
Experience or familiarity with materials testing equipment and methods such as mechanical testing (tensile, compression, DIC, etc.) and materials characterization (DSC, DMA, TGA, SEM/EDS, etc.)
Familiarity with Li-ion cells and electrochemical testing are a plusShow more
