The Role

Leads a team of highly technical engineers that create and implement plans to grow and maintain the CenturyLink Asia Pacific IP and transport network.
Builds a high-performance team; hires and retains the right talent in the right roles; sets goals, delegates work, holds reports accountable; develops and empowers direct reports to make decisions and take action. Mentor, coach, and motivate direct report staff to realize individual and team goals.
Develops and Implements Inter-team processes. Understands broader company level influences and the direct impact to upstream and downstream Intra-company partners. Distinctly aware of Inter-team process gaps, root cause of gaps and able to identify and recommend systemic solutions. Can champion process change internal to the team even when changes involve more workload for team. Constantly seeks improvements in efficiencies working with leadership to streamline processes, drive down deployment intervals, eliminate rework and demonstrate improvements through regular reporting.
Oversee work queue of planners and engineers to ensure priorities are established and develop WIP/ force to load reporting with leadership to demonstrate workload Planning Engineer work queue management supporting equipment augment requests for multiple projects and with differing timelines, dependencies, and priorities to facilitate the successful realization of new revenue and savings

The Main Responsibilities

Responsible for defining pre and post-sales capacity check process and reporting performance to ensure that targets set with leadership are maintained.
Works with leadership to define capital budget requirements and ensures planners submit accurate and timely requests via the CAP GOV process to fun augments and new builds.
Develop and maintain capacity management processes in line with agreed targets to ensure upgrades and augments are completed “Just in Time”, ensuring that there is sufficient headroom to accommodate projected growth. Report all capacity issues that cause customer orders to be held or delay cost savings. Provide detailed reports and comprehensive summaries of capacity management performance to the Executive Management team on regional performance.
Identifies critical APAC specific BPM/Netbuild workflows required to improve efficiencies, define roles and responsibilities and enable performance tracking. With support from leadership engage with business process team and other stakeholders to initiate support and drive the creation of improved workflows and buy off from all impacted groups.
Drives team to initiate internal orders for provisioning of new infrastructure circuits, customer grooms, and cancellations to facilitate the collapse of legacy hardware, POP collapses, or cost-saving initiatives.
Ensure accuracy of Plans, Netbuilds, IWOs, and Statements of work generated by APAC NP&I and provided to downstream groups. Consults with leadership, recommends, and substantiates future network design plans.
Works closely with leadership to prioritize workload and establish standard intervals for business as usual activities to track team performance.
Works with project management, supporting teams, and leadership to define intervals for complex projects and BAU activities. Ensures that team maintain projected milestones under APAC NP&I control to ensure target dates are achieved.
Acts as the SME interface with product, business development, and A&E to ensure that global standards are applied to APAC Network and meet business requirements. Ensures that detailed designs and costs are provided by NP&I team for all regional business cases.
Analyzes trends and develop strategies to expand, rearrange, or modify the network to accommodate corporate initiatives and industry changes and drivers. Identifies opportunities to optimize the APAC Network to improve performance and reduce cost.
Participates in the long-term strategic direction planning for all of Network Engineering and A&E.
Provide an escalation path for resolution of critical customer and infrastructure-related issues.
Provide expert-level design support to pre-sales teams to design competitive and cost-effective customer solutions.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Expert knowledge and development skills for Network processes, standards, and tools including interdepartmental handoffs, activities and SLA’s. Acts as a liaison into organizational initiatives to improve overall efficiency.
Expert skills developing and using new engineering principles, processes, applications, methods and procedures, installation practices, and telecom architectures to support the development of the Scope of Work (SOW) and funding documents.
Excellent financial and data analysis skills with the ability to articulate via PowerPoint and through oral communication.
Strong communication and presentation skills with an ability to tailor information to multiple different audiences.
Must be a strong team player, passionate about sharing information and knowledge with peers and management. Actively promote cross functional collaboration.
Actively pursue opportunities to reduce costs, improve reliability and enhance the customer experience
Ability to work effectively across borders and cultures with customers, vendors and employees outside of the domestic U.S.
In depth understanding of existing subsea cable networks and backhaul options. Must stay up to date with plans for deployment of new systems that can add capacity and diversity to the International Network.
In depth understanding of International Telecommunications Vendors, Subsea cable systems and the ability to create strong relationships with vendor account management and Solution Engineering teams
Be available to travel and work outside of the domestic US for extended periods of time.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience. 12+ years related experience. 8 years w/ Master’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
Success Measurements:
Meet or exceed departmental KPIs set by leadership
Establish and document standard processes for team to increase efficiencies and productivity
Automate reporting where possible to provide dashboard views of workload, team performance and network costs.
