Michigan State University College of Human Medicine is now hiring standardized patients to participate in mock doctor-patient encounters with medical students. This dynamic medical education practice helps students gain real-world patient experience in a variety of settings and scenarios. This job opportunity is located at The Secchia Center in Grand Rapids.Official Grand Rapids MSU Standardized Patient Application to complete link: https://careers.msu.edu/en-us/job/510844/simulated-patient-variable-rateuntilABOUT STANDARDIZED PATIENTS Standardized patients are people of all ages from all races and socio-economic backgrounds selected to participate in mock doctor-patient encounters.The simulated experiences give students the opportunity to practice communication and physical examinations on standardized patients where they are able to receive valuable feedback on these important skills.A standardized patient’s personal health history is not used in cases. All experiences are scripted in detail for the participant.Standardized patients participate in training specific to each case or medical condition.Prior knowledge of medicine is not required.REQUIREMENTS OF A STANDARDIZED PATIENTMust be 18 years of age or older.Able to perform basic tasks on a computer, such as access email, recall passwords, click check boxes, etc.Able to memorize and recall patient case and assessment information during an interview with medical students.Participation in a paid, one-hour training session for a specific case; all necessary information to play the role will be provided.PHYSICAL EXAMS DURING SIMULATED EXPERIENCES Some cases involve interview only, while others are interview and physical exam.Standardized patients decide which events and cases they want to participate in and create their own schedule.Physical exams may include: heart, lung, abdominal, face, limbs, eyes, nose, throat, muscle strength, reflexes, and blood pressure.RATE OF PAY Standardized patients are paid for the time they are at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Simulation Center for training and the time on site for the event experience. Rates are based on the type of role you portray. Rates begin at $16/hour.This is an on-call role.
